J Hus & Asake Unite on New Track ‘Gold,’ Blending UK Rap and Afrobeats

East London rap sensation J Hus and Nigerian Afrobeats powerhouse Asake have collaborated for the first time on their new track, “Gold,” a bass-heavy offering that seamlessly fuses the raw energy of UK street music with the vibrant, Yoruba-rooted bravado of Afrobeats.

The accompanying black-and-white music video complements the track’s essence, stripping away distractions to emphasize mood and presence. Its restrained yet powerful visuals mirror the impactful nature of the song itself.

“Gold” marks J Hus’s first release since 2023, following his notable Royal Albert Hall show and the widespread acclaim of his 2020 project, “Big Conspiracy.” Speculation of a remix had circulated after J Hus’s verse initially appeared over the instrumental of Shallipopi’s 2025 hit “Laho.” However, “Gold” emerges as a distinct and standalone piece, replete with themes of loyalty, wealth, and the unwritten codes that govern those who live by them.

J Hus’s verse is rich with imagery, as he flashes gold rings and name-drops luxury brands like Rolex and Cartier, alongside a reference to Gaddafi. These aren’t merely symbols of opulence but rather signify survival, ambition, and a legacy forged through resilience. He powerfully declares, “Don’t bend, don’t break, don’t fold. It’s a bad boy gangsta party.”

Asake follows with his signature chant-like repetitions and sharp, memorable one-liners, playfully calling himself “too oversabi” (a Nigerian Pidgin term for being overly knowledgeable or meddlesome) and projecting his thoughts into the year 2060. His verse effortlessly navigates between spiritual clarity and street smarts, perfectly complementing J Hus’s style while maintaining his unique rhythm. He asserts, “Life is too short, make I burn enemies.”
