Nigerian music heavyweights Wizkid and Asake have officially released their highly anticipated new single, “Turbulence,” marking a historic moment for the Afrobeats genre in 2026. The track serves as the powerful opening statement for their four-track collaborative EP, REAL, Vol. 1, which arrived globally on January 23 following weeks of intense fan speculation.
Produced by the hit-making duo Magicsticks and 4Tunes, “Turbulence” is a masterclass in sonic contrast. The production seamlessly weaves together Wizkid’s refined, melodic Afro-fusion sensibilities with the percussive, high-energy textures that have defined Asake’s meteoric rise. The result is a track that feels both spiritually reflective and undeniably dance-worthy, capturing the evolving pulse of the Lagos sound.
Thematically, “Turbulence” offers a rare look into the minds of two of Africa’s most influential artists. The lyrics delve into the complexities of success, exploring the discipline of staying resilient amid the “turbulence” of fame and life’s daily pressures. Wizkid’s smooth, laid-back delivery provides a perfect counterpoint to Asake’s distinctive, street-inspired cadence, creating a synergy that emphasizes their shared experiences as ambassadors of African culture.
“Turbulence” is accompanied by a cinematic music video that reinforces the song’s themes of poise and perspective. The visual avoids excessive spectacle, opting instead for a mood-driven aesthetic that highlights the authentic chemistry between the two stars. As the first full-body collaboration between Wizkid and Asake, the REAL, Vol. 1 project—which also includes hits like “Jogodo” and “Iskolodo”—stands as a testament to the power of creative unity across different generations of the genre.
The single and the full REAL, Vol. 1 EP are now available on all major streaming platforms worldwide.
