The GoodWine, the dynamic Nigerian duo based in London, is set to redefine Afro-fusion with the release of their new EP, “KAYA.” Following their acclaimed ACTS (Deluxe) in 2024, this six-track journey is a deeply personal and universal exploration of “home” in its myriad forms, born from shared experiences, love, and spiritual reflection.
“KAYA” draws its rich meaning from both the Zulu word for “home” and the Igbo word “Tell It.” True to its name, the project eloquently tells stories of home in all its manifestations: love, relationships, heartbreak, spiritual awakening, thanksgiving, and more, flowing effortlessly between languages and emotions.
The EP invites deep reflection from its very first notes. The title track features poetic Igbo lyrics like, “Ụlọm di na eligwe mara mma, ọnwụ adịghị ya” (My home in heaven is beautiful, and there’s no death there), setting a contemplative tone. “Ezinna” offers tender reassurance with soft melodies and a probing question, “Who is a good father?” “Junita” stands out as peak storytelling, bringing the parable of the ten virgins to life over a genre-blurring beat.
What makes “KAYA” particularly soothing is its ability to balance intimacy with universality. Each song feels like a shared moment, whether it’s the companionship for the lonely found in “You,” the thanksgiving and joyful dance initiation of “Jo,” or the heartfelt, handwritten love letters evoked by “Darling.”
