Shagba, the Nigerian rapper from the renowned Anti World Gangstars collective, returns with his sharpest social commentary yet on the new single, “Washing Machine.” The track delivers a high-energy pulse wrapped around a clever satirical critique of the seductive yet perilous world of modern, illicit hustles.
Shagba has always been known for his fearless lyrical honesty and streetwise flows, and “Washing Machine” is no exception. On the surface, the song pulses with undeniable club-ready energy and braggadocio, but beneath the slick production and catchy hook lies a deeply coded message.
The core of the song revolves around the phrase, “them no dey wash cloth oh, but them dey do laundry.” This ingenious wordplay flips a mundane domestic chore into slang for illicit money-making and quick, risky profit—a lifestyle built on illusion and rapid turnover.
Shagba paints vivid, unflinching scenes: he details the fake luxury of GLEs, the suspicious hours kept by bank managers, and Paris trips funded by shadowy schemes, all set against a backdrop of AC-cooled clubs and palpable sensual tension.
Crucially, the song also serves as a sharp warning. Lines like “Fear boys wey do laundry, if you vex them go sell country” cut through the glamour, reminding listeners that this flashy world is as volatile and ethically fraught as it is tempting.
With clever wordplay and unflinching observation, “Washing Machine” acts as a powerful mirror held up to a generation navigating the high-stakes intersection of ambition, temptation, and survival in the modern era.
Shagba’s new single, “Washing Machine,” is available now on all major streaming platforms.
