Tumelo Manyoni, the visionary producer and DJ professionally known as Mr JazziQ, has unveiled his latest sonic contribution to the global Amapiano movement with the release of “Wololo.” Featuring the high-energy production duo Mellow & Sleazy, the track is a definitive masterclass in the “private school” Amapiano sound—a subgenre Mr JazziQ pioneered that prioritizes soulful melodies and sophisticated arrangements over raw percussion. Since his emergence, Mr JazziQ has remained a key architect of the genre’s expansion, consistently evolving the South African sound for a worldwide audience while preserving the rhythmic heart of the township.
“Wololo” is built upon an infectious foundation of heavy log drums and intricate, layered percussion, a signature of the collaboration with Mellow & Sleazy. The track is designed for maximum crowd participation, centered around a repetitive, high-energy chant that serves as a rhythmic invitation to the dancefloor. Lyrically, the song dives deep into the vibrant tapestry of South African nightlife, utilizing street slang and township references to paint a vivid picture of weekend culture and communal enjoyment. By allowing the beat sufficient space to breathe, the vocals are able to ride the rhythm with a seamless flow that maintains a relentless momentum from start to finish.
This release marks another milestone in Mr JazziQ’s mission to export the authentic South African “groove” to the global stage. “Wololo” balances the grit of its street-inspired roots with a polished production quality that makes it equally suited for high-end lounges and heaving nightclubs. As the Amapiano genre continues to dominate international charts, collaborations like this ensure that the sound remains fresh, innovative, and deeply connected to its cultural origins. It is a track that celebrates the joy of the present moment while reinforcing Mr JazziQ’s status as one of the most influential figures in contemporary African electronic music.
The single is officially out now and available on all major streaming platforms worldwide.
