Sir Bright Chimezie, the veteran singer, songwriter, and cultural voice, has released his latest single, “Ozongali,” continuing the tradition of his pioneering “Zigima Sound.” A dominant force in Nigerian highlife since the 1980s, Chimezie uses this new track to deliver familiar wit, rhythm, and enduring wisdom rooted in the Igbo heartland.
“Ozongali” is a heartfelt highlife love song that moves beyond romantic drama, choosing instead to celebrate respect and enduring partnership. The veteran artist opens the track with a powerful promise of devotion: “I am going to love you always, I am going to stand by you always.”
The song’s central focus is the celebration of the “right woman,” or “Ozongadi,” as a source of peace, support, and joy. Chimezie’s lyrics are woven with cultural wisdom, drawing on deep Igbo proverbs, such as: “Di na nwanyi gbaa izu, isi ji agho anya nri” (when husband and wife agree, the home overflows with food and happiness). This paints a beautiful vision of love built on daily harmony and shared purpose.
The track, produced by the acclaimed Masterkraft, features Sir Bright Chimezie’s signature blend of traditional highlife instrumentation and a gentle, danceable rhythm. Horns, percussion, and intricate guitar lines weave together seamlessly, while his voice—calm, assured, and full of feeling—guides the listener. By the track’s end, the repeated chant of “Ozongadi” transforms into a communal celebration, inviting listeners everywhere to honour the quiet, foundational strength of a good partnership.
