Afro Pop-Soul artist and producer KOTRELL, born Atonopriya Cotterell, today released his poignant new single, “Safe.” This track opens KOTRELL’s 2025 musical journey with a powerful blend of honesty and healing, further showcasing his unique ability to infuse deep vulnerability with masterful control.
KOTRELL’s music has always resonated with profound emotion, a trait that has defined his artistry since he began writing at nine and recording at eleven. With a diverse foundation in soul, pop, and alternative genres, he has consistently sculpted sounds that speak directly to the heart. Following the buzz generated by his 2023 project Love Is… and the emotionally charged Forever EP, “Safe” arrives as a testament to his continued growth and artistic depth.
“Safe” is a love song that redefines sanctuary, portraying love not as an escape, but as a space of ultimate acceptance. Lyrical excerpts like “There’s no judgment for my scars” and “You make it easy to love… to trust… to give all of myself again” beautifully articulate the song’s core message: the profound experience of being truly seen and unconditionally chosen.
“This song is personal. It’s about being in a space where your whole self is welcome, no edits, no armour,” shares KOTRELL. “I think everyone deserves that.”
The production of “Safe,” backed by the melodic layering of 121 Selah, is both atmospheric and grounded. It floats effortlessly without drifting, mirroring the gentle yet powerful strength of the song’s message. With this release, KOTRELL once again proves that his artistry extends beyond just melody; it’s deeply rooted in meaningful storytelling.
“Safe” is available now on all major streaming platforms.
