Keji Hamilton is a multi-instrumentalist who plays lead guitar, bass, piano, congas, and alto saxophone. Widely recognised for his tenure in Fela Anikulapo Kuti’s Egypt 80 band, with whom he toured internationally for over a decade, he now records for HIS Media Empire, blending Afrobeat traditions with modern storytelling and social consciousness.
On his latest album, Afro Keji, Keji channels that musicianship into a spirited Afro-gospel collection that moves from spiritual warfare to deep gratitude. The project confronts opposition, celebrates redemption, and affirms dependence on divine grace, all anchored in the rhythmic
DNA of Afrobeat. Across the album, Keji Hamilton explores themes of spiritual battles, gratitude, redemption, and dependence on God. The project opens with “Ole,” where he uses the Yoruba word for thief as a metaphor for anything that attempts to take away purpose, peace, or blessings. “Gel” follows with a declaration of surrender, while “Pray For You” extends beyond his own experiences to become a heartfelt prayer for loved ones and anyone facing difficult seasons.
Through Nigerian Pidgin, Yoruba, and Afrobeat-inspired arrangements, each song carries messages of encouragement and faith. The album continues with “Agbaya People,” a prayer for wisdom and protection, and “KatKata,” which explores the inner struggles that come with staying committed to faith. The closing tracks, “Titi Lailai” and “Baba,” highlight the joy of transformation and the importance of gratitude. While “Titi Lailai” celebrates redemption through a lively Afro-gospel sound, “Baba” offers a simple expression of appreciation for God’s guidance and blessings.
