African artists Hens and Laime have released their intriguing new track, the “Tatanu Remix,” a genre-bending exploration that masterfully blends Afro-fusion rhythms with profound existential reflection. This multilingual song, featuring lyrics in French, Yoruba, and Lingala, creates a rich and engaging pan-African philosophical dialogue.
The song immediately sets a contemplative tone with the inclusion of the powerful French quote: “Ne t’accroche pas à cette vie car de toute façon personne n’en sortira vivant” (Don’t cling to this life because in any case no one will get out of it alive). This central idea underscores the track’s urging for listeners to fully appreciate each moment while simultaneously pursuing their ambitions. This duality reflects the artists’ own experiences navigating different continents and cultures.
Despite the poignant acknowledgment of mortality, “Tatanu Remix” pulsates with an undeniable drive to work hard and achieve success, emphatically stating, “To get the money spend it all and make it back today.” This juxtaposition of themes makes the track both deeply reflective and highly energetic.
Musically, the “Tatanu Remix” is a captivating blend of traditional African percussion and contemporary 808 beats. Hens and Laime seamlessly transition between languages, their voices weaving together to create a unique and compelling soundscape. The repeated word “Tatanu” acts as both a memorable hook and an existential punctuation mark, leaving listeners both moved and energized. This is music designed to make you move your feet while simultaneously engaging your mind.
