Nigerian hip-hop icon and social commentator Falz is keeping his foot firmly on the pedal. Fresh off the release of his celebrated five-track extended play Break Time—a project rooted deeply in economic realities and the Nigerian experience—Falz has officially dropped the visual treatment for “Na Je,” delivering one of the most culturally grounded Nigerian music videos of the year.
Featuring musical duo Oiza x Meyi and producer-artist FirstKlaz, “Na Je” derives its title from a Hausa phrase meaning “I went” or “I have gone.” The record masterfully blends Falz’s signature commentary with traditional Northern sounds, a theme that director and creative team push further by setting the entire visual narrative on location in Northern Nigeria.
Abandoning artificial studio setups, the video immerses viewers in semi-desert landscapes, traditional mud-brick architecture, and the everyday rhythms of local life. From community elders gathered over games of draughts to street musicians playing the kuntigi and kalangu, and women carrying clay water pots along hilltop ridges, every scene captures the region’s authentic beauty. On-screen English subtitles accompany the Hausa lyrics, ensuring the song’s messages of resilience, personal journeys, and survival resonate across all languages.
The wardrobe choices further elevate the project’s cultural authenticity, with Oiza x Meyi draped in traditional Northern tunics complete with bead jewelry and tassel accents, while Falz wears an earth-toned kaftan and cap.
“With ‘Na Je,’ we wanted to tell a story that felt completely organic to the music. Moving the lens to Northern Nigeria allowed us to showcase real communities, traditional instruments, and genuine human spirit while speaking on resilience and survival.”
