Leading Kenyan rapper, singer, and songwriter Maandy has officially released her captivating new four-track EP, “Write.” Known for her sharp delivery and seamless versatility across hip-hop, Gengetone, Afropop, and alternative rap, the Nairobi-born star delivers a deeply personal body of work that charts a journey through heartbreak, attraction, independence, and self-love.
Born Amanda Mitchelle Wambui and raised in Nairobi’s Dagoretti neighborhood, Maandy has established herself as one of the most prominent female voices in East Africa’s urban music landscape. On “Write,” she brings her signature unfiltered honesty to the forefront, creating a soundtrack for anyone navigating romantic loss while stepping into their own power.
The EP opens with “December,” a poignant, vulnerable track where Maandy confronts the pain of an abusive relationship while holding onto hope, questioning past intentions with the lyric “na kama ukunitaka si ungesema” before looking toward healing with the resilient promise, “najua nitakuwa sawa by December.”
The mood shifts dynamically on “Maji,” an upbeat, sensual Afropop entry exploring magnetic romantic chemistry and raw physical attraction. On “Outside,” Maandy steps into liberation, celebrating life after a breakup and the freedom that comes with choosing oneself. The project closes on a high note with “Yamii,” an unapologetic anthem of self-appreciation where she shines in full confidence, honoring her own beauty, body, and individuality.
Across “Write,” Maandy masterfully balances vulnerability with strength, offering a complete portrait of healing, self-discovery, and total artistic freedom.
“Write” is out now and available on all major music streaming platforms worldwide via ONErpm.
