Nigerian music legend 2Baba has officially released his latest single, “Mental,” featuring vocal powerhouse FAVE. Timed to coincide with his 51st birthday, the drop offers fans a dual cause for celebration alongside the iconic singer-songwriter.
According to his manager and business partner, Mallam Yankee, the release was deliberately planned to give listeners a special gift to mark the milestone. The birthday festivities kicked off with an exclusive listening party and the official launch of 2Baba Jollof in Victoria Island, Lagos.
Produced by Dee Yasso, “Mental” bridges two distinct generations of Nigerian music. The record masterfully blends 2Baba’s classic Afro-pop foundations with FAVE’s modern, emotionally raw songwriting. Centered on the overwhelming weight of love and vulnerability, the track revisit themes 2Baba has explored throughout his storied career—from his early days with Plantashun Boiz to his position as one of Africa’s most enduring solo pioneers.
FAVE, who captured global attention with her 2021 hit “Baby Riddim,” delivers a light, ethereal vocal texture that creates a compelling contrast against 2Baba’s deeper, grounded delivery. Following his earlier 2026 track “Celebrate,” “Mental” stands as 2Baba’s first official single of the year.
Beyond celebrating his birthday, “Mental” serves as the lead single for 2Baba’s upcoming studio album, “Oldest Young Man”—his first full-length body of work in six years. Coming on the heels of his legendary classic “African Queen” topping Billboard’s list of the greatest Afrobeats songs of all time, the collaboration highlights the veteran artist’s continued evolution and relevance in today’s global music landscape.
“Mental” is now available on all major music streaming platforms worldwide.
