Ṣẹwà Asks If the Feeling Is Mutual on New Single “Do You?”

2 min read

Nigerian-born, Toronto-based singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer Ṣẹwà is building a sound that brings together Afrobeats, R&B, jazz, soul, and pop with the influence of Fuji and Yoruba music. Often associated with Yorupop and Afro-Soul, her approach draws on different musical traditions while making room for intimate, personal storytelling. Her new single, “Do You?,” explores the uncertainty of loving someone when the depth of their feelings is not always clear, opening with a question about whether there is something in the water before moving into a more personal conversation about love and trust.

Ṣẹwà asks her partner to pull her closer, then revisits his earlier promise that there was no one else. Her question, “Did you lie?” reveals the doubt beneath her affection. Even as she wonders where they stand, she admits that he keeps crossing her mind and that she cannot bring herself to replace him. She wants to know whether he sees and feels what she does, while small details of their relationship reveal how deeply she remains invested. She listens whenever he speaks and values the moments when he turns to her for support, even as she questions whether she is still the person he considers his closest companion.

This repetition reflects the tension between wanting reassurance and fearing that the relationship may not mean the same thing to both people.

“Do You?,” Ṣẹwà captures the vulnerability of caring deeply for someone without knowing where you stand, giving voice to the questions that often remain unspoken when love, loyalty, and the fear of losing someone exist side by side.

“Do you?” is now available on all streaming platforms via ONErpm.
