Watch: “I Never Wanted To Be An Artiste” – Yemi Alade

2o14 Headies Next rated Nominee, Yemi Alade whose rise to fame can be attributed to hard work and perseverance, was recently at HipTV studios for an exclusive interview where she speaks on her music journey, record label and being a member of defunct girl group.

The songstress, who is a daughter to a Yoruba father and an Igbo Mother reveals that she never took music seriously while growing up although she was always the front woman to represent her secondary school for any social gathering or event.

According to her, “I have always been a lover of music but i never wanted to be a artiste, even in the University when I started writing song, I still didn’t want to be an artiste”, “I just did it because i enjoyed it and God has blessed me with so much Talent, but I’m grateful” She added

When asked about her High School girl group, she had this to say “I finally joined a girl group when i was in secondary school called N.O.T.Y SPICIES, with the NOTY standing as an acronym to our individual names” she further revealed that they signed a partial deal with STORM records but it didn’t materialize as they went their separate ways to pursue their educational career.

She went on to reveal that she began to music seriously after winning a talent show in 2009, “then, i realised that it was time and this talent in me has to be taken seriously, instead of all fun and games”

Yemi, whose song “Johnny” formally cemented her place as a force in the music industry, revealed that her breakthrough came when she met her record label Effizie Music Group. In her words ” I am grateful to my label and together we are gradually taking it to the next level” Check Out The Video
