BNXN Sets Sail with Highly Anticipated Second Album, “CAPTAIN”
Bnxn has officially dropped his second studio album, “CAPTAIN,” released via T.Y.E. and EMPIRE. This 16-track project is being hailed as a masterpiece, showcasing Bnxn’s remarkable musical versatility, significant artistic evolution, and his undeniable commanding presence in the industry.
In a recent interview with Grammy, Bnxn offered a glimpse into the inspiration behind the album’s title and concept. “‘Captain’ was a name that my friends used to call me to differentiate me and give me this position of leadership, in some sense,” he explained. “But I saw a deeper meaning into what it was, especially pertaining to my music. I just see myself as this pirate, this captain on the ship; I was watching Pirates of the Caribbean the entire summer when I was working on this album.” He further elaborated on his vision, seeing himself as “this person of importance in this ocean of this industry and in Nigeria. To get to this kind of level I’ve been able to amass, it takes some certain level of skill.”
Bnxn’s excitement for the project is palpable. “I’m just excited to share this project. It feels very, very personal,” he shared, even admitting skepticism about releasing a single beforehand “mainly because the album was already very cohesive. It felt like taking a block out of a building, in some sense.”
Within “CAPTAIN,” Bnxn masterfully weaves a rich tapestry of Afro-Fusion, Afrobeats, R&B, and pop, effortlessly transcending genres and solidifying his reputation as a versatile artist.
The album boasts an impressive lineup of guest appearances, featuring collaborations with Rema, Seyi Vibez, Victony, FOLA, and the Soweto Gospel Choir. Fans will recognize some of the tracks, as the album was preceded by the release of singles such as “Very Soon,” “Cutesy,” “Phenomena,” and “Fi Kan We Kan” featuring Rema.
To celebrate the release of “CAPTAIN,” Bnxn is gearing up for a North American music tour. The journey kicks off on August 22 in Boston, USA, and will wrap up on September 19 in Edmonton, Canada.
