“Built a Brand Bigger Than Me” — Visionary Creative Bayano

3 min read

Multidisciplinary artist, fashion designer, and entrepreneur Ibitayo Abiodun Jnr, professionally known as Bayano, has officially unveiled his most ambitious vision to date: FOTY. Short for Fate Of The Youth, the venture is introduced not merely as a fashion label, but as an expansive, long-term cultural movement and creative ecosystem engineered to document, inspire, and represent a global generation of creators, innovators, and dreamers.

Born and raised on Berckley Street by Moloney in the working-class neighborhood of Ebute Metta, Lagos, Bayano’s creative identity was forged directly by the dualities of urban life. Navigating limited resources, environmental pressures, and the necessity of self-reliance, he channeled his surroundings into a fascination with style, fit, and presentation from a young age. After spending years observing garment construction in local tailoring shops, Bayano launched his first entrepreneurial clothing venture, BayanoWears. This early experimentation paved the way for his 2022 project, Grown Soul—a mature exploration of identity and cultural storytelling that ultimately laid the foundation for FOTY.

“FOTY is not simply a brand,” Bayano states. “It is a vision, a philosophy, a creative ecosystem, and ultimately, a lifelong commitment to shaping the future of youth culture. I am building something designed to be much larger than myself—a platform that outlives trends, transcends physical products, and creates a lasting cultural impact.”

Approaching fashion as a form of visual anthropology rather than simple aesthetics, FOTY explores deep-seated themes of resilience, ambition, pressure, and possibility. The project’s design language draws heavy inspiration from global streetwear, football culture, contemporary music, architecture, military discipline, and everyday street experiences.

Beyond apparel, Bayano’s work as a creative director spans visual identities, editorial campaigns, product designs, illustrations, and cultural narratives. This interconnected universe is driven forward by key sub-projects under the main FOTY ecosystem, notably:

FOTYTUDE: An ongoing art project and creative archive that explores youth culture, resilience, and self-expression through the fluid mediums of fashion, photography, design, film, and storytelling.

FOTYFIED: An extension of the brand’s philosophy that represents the distinct mindset, attitude, and cultural perspective shared by the FOTY community.

Looking toward the global stage, Bayano envisions FOTY evolving into a recognized cultural institution. Grounded in the principles of original craftsmanship and heritage, the movement is actively structuring its ecosystem to foster high-concept collaborations with some of the world’s most iconic legacy brands, including Nike, Timberland, Rolex, and Levi’s.

Remaining rooted in the Ebute Metta streets that raised him, Bayano continues to advocate for perseverance and original thought, using his platform to prove that circumstances do not dictate destiny. Through every sketch, garment, and visual campaign, FOTY stands as an active testament to the power of personal transformation and community impact.
